French photographer Julie Joubert embraces social themes to highlight those who are continually side-lined. In applying her almost documentary style, she invites the viewer to change their perception of these individuals through the sublimation of their faces and bodies. She maintains a certain distance, yet also attempts to highlight the authenticity of her subjects. In MIDO, Jouberts first book, she follows Ahmed in his daily life. After meeting him at a social reintegration centre for young people, she realised how he wants to hide as much as he wants to be noticed. Her photographic portrait reveals her subjects fragility, self-destructive nature, even his ability to reveal himself.
